It Smells Like Old Ladies...

Kids say the funniest things... Princess T is out of School on Summer Break so she's my constant Companion and Sidekick now.  She was helping me choose an alternate Votivo Candle Scent, since we couldn't find my "Forgotten Sage" favorite fragrance of the line.  She picked one up and wrinkled her nose saying, "Ewww... it smells like Old Ladies!!!"  I HAD to take a whiff to see what an eleven year old thinks smells like Old Ladies?  *LOL*  It wasn't a bad fragrance, just a Classic Floral Blend... like the Perfumes a lot of Elderly Ladies prefer to wear.  Sooooo... THAT'S what Old Ladies smell like huh?  *Winks*

Now she's piqued my Curiosity... "So, do you think I smell like an Old Lady?" I query.   "No, Gramma, you smell like this one..." and she hands me the "Champaca" fragrance, which I didn't even know was in the Votivo Line.  Indeed, for the Gal that smells like Nag Champa, she was spot on... this aromatic blend of Sandalwood and Champaca Petals is reminiscent of my signature fragrance I've worn in what seems like Forever and everyone says they know me by!

It has often been said by my Family and Friends that they know I'm somewhere nearby if they smell Nag Champa in the air!  *LOL*   I didn't think I'd find a scent I'd like as much as "Forgotten Sage" in this Votivo line, now I know there's a great backup scent I simply J'Adore equally!!!  We bought it immediately, I only Wish it had been available in more than the Travel Candle size.

We've been having a big time doing the Girl's Day Out thing together actually, she's getting to that age where hanging out together isn't as draining for me.  She's quickly Blossoming into a Young Lady before my very Eyes, as so many of the Grand-Daughters have been doing.  Though she'll always be our Baby Girl, the Youngest Child we've raised since Birth.   And tho' she's our Grandchild, when you've raised them, it's a relationship bond more similar to raising a Daughter... since we're as close as a Mother and Daughter would be.

Our Antique Mall was having a huge Memorial Day Weekend Sale and I did very well during it.   So I did treat myself to a little pressy while everything was 20% off... since I'd been Admiring this 1930's Era Carnival Kitsch Chalkware Girl and she was begging me to take her Home!  *Winks*   She's a particularly large specimen and still has much of her paint, tho' she does have some condition issues, as most of them do after this many years.

I was still digging her and she's now added to my extensive Vintage Carnival Kitsch Chalkware Collection.   It's getting harder to find these at a bargain like I used to be able to, they've had a resurgence in popularity as many things Vintage Kitsch have.   And since my Collection is considerable I don't always buy every one I see anyway.  I've Curated the Collection and become much more Editorial, as I have with most everything I'm Keeping now.

The same with my Library, now a Book has to totally Rock before I'll add it to our Library shelves.   This is one such Book, by Selina Lake, called "Botanical Style".   I have several of her Books and I Love them all, but being I'm very 'Into' Botanical Style I'm having an absolute Love Affair with the Imagery in this Inspirational Book, which I had to buy Online because I couldn't find it Locally at any Book Store!   *Swooning!!!*

I mean there's an entire Chapter devoted to Boho Botanicals for Heaven's Sake!   I'm Boho to my Core... and so a blend of Boho Style and Botanical Style is right up my Alley and leaning towards my Aesthetic!   The Photography in this Book is luscious... it just makes you want to visit these Spaces and spend time there on the Canvas of your Imagination!!!

And there's an entire Chapter devoted to Industrial Botanicals too... and so as to accommodate The Man's Aesthetic as well we've been moving to a Vintage Industrial Vibe blended into our Home's Decor.   I totally Love the Vintage Industrial Vibe myself so there's no compromise necessary. So I just have to put my Spin on it for the Home so that our Essence is apparent.

One more peek into the pages... I mean you HAVE to buy this Book too my Friends, every single Page is Swoon worthy, I Promise you!   This Simple exposed Brick Wall with Futon Bed and Warehouse Loft Botanical Style has me re-thinking how I want to eventually upgrade our Boudoir Space in the Future.

But here in the Present I've been still busily unpacking boxes and crates in the Hoarded Garages.  Most items have been whisked off to the Showrooms to be Sold... or have been Donated to Charity Shops if they're not what I want to Sell in my Showroom... but I am rediscovering some Keepers as well.   I've had everything in the Garages packed away as Storage for just shy of two years now, so it's like a Treasure Hunt of my own Stuff I had entirely Forgot about!  *LOL*  I found some of my extensive Rosary Collection still packed away, so that being one of my most Beloved very early Collections, I'm having Fun finding places to Display them around New Villa Boheme'.

My Rosary Collection was one of my first extensive Collections that I spent many years accumulating and I have so many Memories of when I got each one.  I have Rosaries from many Eras and from all around the World.   By the time I finished expanding the Collection I had refined my Search to procuring only the most unusual or Rare Rosaries I didn't already have in the Collection.  It still brings me endless hours of Pleasure beholding my Rosaries and other Spiritual Collections, so I've Kept a great many.   But I have also Sold Off a great many as well, so the Collections are about half of what I used to Own.  Religious and Spiritual items have held their Value well and only significantly increased over Time, so it was a Wise Investment.

Of coarse my Quirkier items are Keepers, regardless of real or perceived Value... I don't really Care what the Profit Margins would be, because I don't have any immediate Plans to part with most of them.   But I have parted with some of them... Yes I have!!!   I recently Sold a couple Canning Jars filled with Porcelain Doll Heads... they didn't stay in Inventory long, so I suppose 'My People' have Found me and become Regular Visitors to my Showroom?!?  Just in case I part with my Oddities, Curiosities and other Weird shit, right?!??!  *Winks*

Yes, I'm that Kooky Gramma they used to talk about in the lead Introduction to the TV Reality Show "Oddities" from New York's Shop 'Obscura'.  Damn I sure Miss that Show and it's Sister Show from San Francisco's Shop 'Loved To Death'!   Those were mos def MY kinda People!!!   I could hang out endlessly with a Crowd like those folks, we'd have so much in Common!!!   And... even tho' I'm a Weirdo... at least I don't smell like an Old Lady... *Winks*   Nope, I'm still the Gal that smells like Nag Champa and my Grand-Daughter said that because of that, I'm a GOOD smelling Gramma!  *Awwww... Smiles*

Yes Kids can say the funniest things and also the Sweetest things as well, can't they my Friends?   And that is why it's always Amusing to Hang Out with them, you just never know what will fall out of their Mouths???!!?!??!!  *Smiles*

Asian Panel Trio Off To The Showroom

I spent the Morning cleaning a trio of Asian Wall Panels I'd recently Sourced for my Showroom at BRASS ARMADILLO WEST.

They had clearly been in storage a long time and were filthy from neglect, it was Magical seeing them come back to life with a light washing.

As years of dirt and grime washed away the Beauty of the pieces became more apparent.

The black lacquered background began to shine and the details of the Carvings were more evident.

It's very hard not to want to Keep pieces like these, I could envision them in my Meditation Room... Sure!  *Smiles*

Especially when I researched similar Art I could have waffled and was even more Tempted to Keep them since in Retail settings they are expensive!

But I've made a Vow to myself to not only be more Editorial at Home, but also to upgrade my Showroom and carry better quality Inventory.

I will certainly still carry the less expensive Smalls, since that is the Bread and Butter at a large Antique Mall.  But I want to also have the Statement pieces available for those who are seeking more than a Tchotchke.

In fact, to get my Retail Space where I envision it, to be more authentic to Self in the Inventory carried and sourced, I simply have to upgrade it considerably.

I have to begin bringing in those pieces I'm Mad about and have a strong Temptation and Urge to WANT to Keep. Then I know I've got the Showroom where I always wanted it to be Inventory and Aesthetic wise!

It is difficult for us Human Magpies to do that you know... to Let Go of the Killer Finds and not Squirrel it away in our lairs!  *Smiles*

To find an Awesome Treasure we Love and to know we won't be Keeping can be a struggle.  It is however less traumatic than it used to be for me, I'm less Attached to the Things of Life.

I can detach more easily now and realize the sensible, not to mention profitable, thing to do is to have it looking Fab in my Showroom rather than in our Home.

And so the Asian Panel Trio will be off to Showroom #114 this Afternoon when I leave for my Shift Tonight.

My Dreadlocked Gramma

So, to embrace Life Changes, all of them whether voluntary or not, I got my Dreadlocks on Sunday, Symbolic of Change in general.   Thanks going out to my Stylist, Ginger, at REBEL HAIR SALON & VINTAGE in Downtown Phoenix, who spent 8 hours Dreading my hair with a Smile on her face and a Pleasant Attitude, she is indeed the Dread Master and such a Sweet Girl!!!   So last pix above of my high maintenance, thinning, long, straight hair that was being negatively affected by my Diabetic Meds.  Hello to my Dreadlocks Journey, I'm Loving them and of coarse spent Today putting in Accessories of Dread Jewelry Cuffs!  *Of coarse! Winks*   And No, I didn't acquire a Tan too... the first Image is simply washed out and Pale due to florescent lighting, my Natural Complexion is the bottom Image.  *LOL*   The Young Prince and The Man liked them... Princess T is still getting used to her Dreadlocked Gramma and touching them {Her comment was Ewww they feel Weird!  LMAO}... as well as counting how many I have, a shade under 50 Dreads!  *Smiles*  We went with the smaller numerous thin Dreads due to me not having luxurious thick locks to work with and it will more evenly distribute weight as they grow and dry quicker when washed.   Yes, you DO wash them, just in case you were wondering.  *LMAO... Yes, people actually ask such questions!*  Actually got numerous random compliments on my hair Today while taking The Man to the VA Hospital for treatment in the City... that never happened with my previous hair... it felt Good.

Come Take A Walk With Us In The Cool Of The Morning

I Love taking early Morning walks at The Desert Botanical Gardens...

In the Coolness of the Mornings the Desert is teeming with Life...

So come take a walk with us in the Cool of the Morning my Friends...

Let's see what Nature will Inspire us by...

Let's have those early Morning talks as we commune with Nature...

The Serenity of Life waking up and going about it's business of the day...

Hearing the cries of the Nesting Baby Birds coming from the Cactus hole Nests...

The florescent Hues of the Dragonflies at the Pond...

The bubbling Peaceful sounds of the water spilling over the Grinding Wheel Fountains and other Water Features...

Yes, we dined right here, having our Breakfast alfresco...

I just Love eating Meals in the open air, don't you?

Taking walks with Family or Friends is one of my Favorite things to do...

She's so much bigger now and so our Talks during our Walks there are much more profound...

Though we Enjoy many of the Simple things we always did... Raspberry Walls against blooming Bougainvillea...

And how Nature is like an explosion of a Crayon Box!!!

Watching the Ants gathering nectar from the blooms...

Trying to find that low lying Saguaro Cactus Bloom that is able to be photographed...

And peeking inside each bloom to see what is Attracted to it's Sweetness...

Meandering through the Veggie and Herb Gardens for Inspiration to bring Home to ours...

We're still seeking Artichoke Seeds since we desperately want to grow some in our own Garden...

We're totally Obsessed with Artichoke blooms and their various stages...

I want to cut and dry some at about this stage to use as Decor...

She wants me to grow our Gardens and Courtyards lush enough to lounge around in like this...

Do you suppose in our much smaller Garden spaces at the New House we can make it lush she asks...

Well we're certainly gonna try to cram as much lushness as Gramma can squeeze in I respond...

To attract as much Wildlife as possible to our little slice of Heaven on Earth...

So that we can sit at Home and capture Kodak Moments such as these every day...

Yes, I'm gleaning as much Inspiration as I possibly can with each visit...

What do we want to plant and what do we want to Attract?

What Divine Hues do we want to paint our Walls?

What Herbs and Veggies do we want to add to our Victory Gardens?

I've decided I will want to Create some of these Simple Mesquite Trellises for my Vines...

And I was particularly taken with this Ingenious use of broken Cinder Blocks so Artfully used to Create a Stunning Wall, it was a Beautiful Idea to Go Green!!!

I do so Miss my extensive Cactus Garden at The Old Homestead...

But a Thoughtfully placed smaller Garden, perhaps a Sensory Garden, here at New Villa Boheme' is Exciting to Contemplate... perhaps with Lavender Walls?

The Lavender, Raspberry and Rust Hued Walls were drawing us in...

And Princess T is eager for us to plant some Fruit Trees in Containers up the side of the house on the West Wall... perhaps some Pomegranates, Lemons and Oranges...

I had numerous Saguaro at The Old Homestead, no room for them here, so I have to Admire them here now instead... in Natural Desert settings...

I Loved this Ancient Petroglyph of The Thunderbird... looking as Vibrant as the day the Ancient Tribal Artist Created it...

And the Creations of Modern Artisans is Enjoyable too... Stone Snakes slithering down handrails...

I took an impaling of a Yucca frond to the Calf to capture this Image for you... *Smiles*

The misting of the plants was refreshing to us too...

Water is Liquid Gold in the Desert...

Swarms of Bees busily Harvesting a Yucca Bloom...

An Ancient Giant Mexican Cardon Cactus reaching to the Azure Skies...

A Roadrunner on the prowl... watch out Baby Quail!!!  He reminds me of a mini Modern version of a Jurassic Park Velociraptor!   Beep Beep!!!

Plant Fossils etched onto a Rock...

I'm Glad she still Enjoys going on these Nature Walks with me... it's Quality Girl Time we both Enjoy... though we did start the Morning out with Tears and Drama... Brothers, you know!

We were dropping him off at Comicon first and after two long days of the Event he was beginning to Fade in temperament from lack of Sleep and Energy...

But he's Soldiering on for the remaining two days because... well.. Comicon!  *Smiles*

I bought him a Full Event Four Day Pass as an Early Birthday Pressie and he's having the time of his Life doing what he's Obsessed about with his Friends...

I 'get' Obsessions... can you only tell by how much I photographed mine with Artichoke blooms?!  *Bwahahahahahaha!!!*

A Cactus Skeleton, as Majestic in Death as a corpse as it was in Life...

Numerous cement Paths have trace evidence of the Creatures that left footprints in the drying walkways...

We're nearing the end of our Walk together, I Hope you haven't been in any hurry to leave?

The older I get the less hurried I am to do anything... I'm more inclined to savor each Moment and be fully Present in it...

I do Hope you've slowed down enough to fully be Present and Enjoy your Moments my Friends???

We may not have to take the Time to do what had to be done slowly by Hand back in the day... but we can slow down enough to Appreciate our Moments...

I know that I've Intentionally slowed way down to Enjoy and Appreciate mine more fully lately...

Because I'd much rather Live Intentionally and with Purpose than Reactively...

And you have to make a Conscious Effort to do that since Life can get so Crazy and take over your Moments...

So you have to Protect them, Guard some of the Moments just for yourself and those you Love and want to spend Quality Time with...

In the Cool of the Morning is when I most like to do that...

But even on those days I'm Alone... well, I'm not really... Life is teeming all around me and I can Commune with it...

Until we meet again...
